Week 036: Back to the Daily Grind Saturday, Sept. 2nd, 2006 - Saturday, Sept. 9th, 2006
To most children, going back to school was a thing of excitement! They'd swing little bags full of brand-new supplies onto tiny shoulders and kiss their Mum's goodbye, skipping up to the doors of their respective places of education. For the children of Hogwarts, however, the merriment was melancholic at best. While practically each and every one of them was excited to see old friends, practice magic, and continue their education, the doubt still hung over all.
Would this be the school year we'd not make it through?
It really seemed like things around them were building up to some sort of unwanted climax and really, no one knew when the hammer would drop. So for the students, it was back to another year of fun mixed with worry and for the Professors, and end to any relaxation they might have earned themselves during the hols. There was no time to waste; things had to get started quickly! DA and FUKD found themselves holding the first meetings of the year pretty shortly after arrival. In the UK, the Order and Death Eaters got to work immediately as well.
Speaking of, it really seemed as if both groups (the Order and DE, that was) now had an up on one another. Sources, they both had sources. Good sources, even, the type that told them that each group had gained numbers during the holiday and, even worse, revealed the names of a few key members. One spy is earnest. The other? Not so much. Only time will tell which group gets led in the very, very wrong direction.
Character relationships are changing and some are even being forced to grow up quickly. Friendships begin and end. Relationships come to a quick, unwanted halt or start up with fresh new faces.
We're back at school and back to the daily grind - could it be any different this time around?

| BREAKING NEWS : MEMOS UNLOCKED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT |
[July 18, 2007 @ 10:47pm] |
Thursday, 13 July 2006 9:21 AM.
Reported by Henry Crawley, Daily Prophet
Mysteriously charmed discarded memos have been taken as evidence by the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Top Ministry hex-breakers revealed the coded messages to reveal maps and notes of the Davis, Hawthorne, and Candlewick estates. Shockingly enough, the attacks seem to have been all mapped out, down to the last detail, including in which rooms the victims slept. The parchment was taken into the custody of Magical Law Enforcement after International Magical Cooperation Department unpaid intern Ian Wentley was sent to St. Mungo's with a mysterious poisoned rash on his right forearm, claimed to have come about from touching a piece of trash that had floated out of the fireplace of a Ministry official.
The name of suspected official has not officially been released by the Ministry, under Minister Malfoy's strict guideline of "not causing any unnecessary alarm."
It seems this is a hot issue for the Ministry as a whole, as they remain very tight-lipped about the tragic events.

| Thirteen Deaths, Wizengamot Families the Victims |
[July 17, 2007 @ 11:07am] |
BREAKING NEWS
Tuesday, 11 July 2006 4:47 AM
The wizarding world and the Ministry of Magic remains shaken to it's foundations after thirteen deaths occurred in the span of what investigators believe took only one hour early this morning; at approximately three AM. An official statement from the Ministry states that three victims were Wizengamot elders, the rest being their families, all murdered in their homes. Victims include the Davis family, the Hawthornes, and the Candlewicks.
Investigators and cursebreakers are having significant trouble in reaching the scenes, or finding any evidence as to what caused the deaths, leading to more suspicion within certain members of the Ministry that these are simply not accidents.
Minister Malfoy has no comment when asked about his opinion or any statement, claiming that the lack of evidence found thus far will only cause more alarm.

Week 036: Commencement Sunday, June 25th, 2006 - Saturday, July 1st, 2006
The previous week’s exams were met with several different emotions. There were the few that were thrilled, simply because all the studying in the world couldn’t have helped them pass. There were the few who were simply relieved exams were over, not really caring what was or wasn’t on them. Perhaps most popular, however, was the opinion that something went horribly, horribly wrong.
The Professors at Hogwarts have been at a loss, unable to provide the explanation that is demanded by the student population. They, like everyone else, have absolutely no idea what went wrong with the tests. The ministry has sent word that it will be stepping in, though, and doesn’t sound too pleased with Hogwarts, or its students.
The Headmaster has stepped in, in an attempt to make the end of the year at least SOMEWHAT enjoyable. At dinner on Sunday, he announced a ball would be held that Wednesday. He dubbed it the “Year’s End Ball,” but the students like to refer to it as the, “Bloody-Lucky-and-Miraculous-We-All-Sodding-Survived-This-Year-From-Hell Ball.”
Even some Professors may agree that title is MUCH more fitting.
Some students may be wondering what to do about dress robes, as they certainly aren’t allowed to venture into Hogsmeade. Dumbledore immediately addressed that concern, happy he got to speak up before the terrified whines of Tatiana Winters and Hargreaves Beckett, announcing that representatives from every one of Hogsmeade’s Dress Shops would bring their stock to the Great Hall on Monday and Tuesday, giving the students time to pick and buy their outfits for the dance.
Also announced was the annual end-of-year feast, during which the students may bid farewell to those seventh years who are leaving. That is to be held on Friday, before the Hogwarts Express leaves Saturday at noon.
The school is certainly trying to get things back to normal- will it work?

Week 035: The Unexpected Has Arrived Sunday, June 11th, 2006 - Saturday, June 24th, 2006
There come a time in every student’s Hogwarts career when the walls of sanity and order crumble completely, leaving a mass of already hormonal teenagers completely beside themselves with worry, frustration, and hopelessness. That time is, of course, when the Ministry of Magic decides to check in with “friendly” evaluations. Yes, Hogwarts, OWLs and NEWTs have arrived! The halls have exploded with cries of desperation and a few unappreciated pranks from the large percentage of students that have been spared this year. Things have been normal enough, and the sudden burst of energy and life comes as a welcome change. It has been too dreary lately, hasn’t it? Something wasn’t right, but now? Now Hogwarts has life. …So what if life was about to end entirely for the Fifth and Seventh years if they were to fail? That’s entirely irrelevant! The tests begin Friday- will things stay normal for long?

Week 034: 'Expect the Unexpected' Sunday, June 4th - Saturday, June 10th, 2006
Finally, there's something rotten in the state of Denmark - at least, that's what Shakespeare would have to say about the events surrounding Hogwarts castle. It was widely believed that Dumbledore's return to the position of Headmaster, fortunately in time for the approaching end of term, would bring what had gone awry back to rights. What people failed to do, however, was expect the unexpected - and that was exactly the philosophy the wizarding community should have been following. Although outward appearances reveal nothing, students and staff are bewildered by the changes inside the castle. Ancient defense charms are on the fritz, though not in a way that the Dark Lord would find advantageous. While each young witch and wizard can still sleep soundly, they might be surprised to find their bed in the kitchens rather than their dormitory. Ah, the trouble with magic has always seemed to be the overwhelming consequences of simple mistakes, things that cannot be so easily controlled.
The Hogwarts library, reopened the prior week with no explanation for its strange closure, continues to vanish, often repositioning itself in various corridors though completely in tact. Students may find themselves walking to class only to discover a moment later that they've been somehow transported to the middle of the grounds. The method to the madness is that there is no method, and while some may only see the large scale disappearing act as a major inconvenience, others fear for their lives. In order to conquer the problem at hand, students should simply adjust their manner of thinking. Expect the unexpected.

Week 033: ‘The Calm Before the Storm’ Sunday, May 7th – 27th
As another week at Hogwarts begins, the eerie absence of news- any news- begins to make students uncomfortable.
Under normal circumstances, the silence would’ve been seen as a sign of upcoming victory, though the wizarding world knows better. With few disappearances and even fewer murders, skeptics begin to count the days until complete destruction. Teachers assure the students that all is well, that their exams will be taking place under all circumstances, and that the library’s continued closing is nothing to be worried about. Just like the rest of the magical universe, however, the students of Hogwarts know when something is amiss.
For now, everything at the school is unnaturally quiet. The house elves seem to have grown out of their rebellious stage, schoolwork is piled on in its usual fashion, and the grapevines of Hogwarts Gossipers continue to weave their way through the hallways, but it’s a strained and awkward façade. People are worried.
The castle has always held an air of mystery, but that air, it seems, has been getting thicker and thicker. Now more than ever, wizards are wary of the peer next to them, the professor on their right. No one can be trusted, and the delicate balance between normalcy and chaos is soon to be tipped.
Some call it the Calm before the Storm. Others see it as the very fine line between life and death.

[May 07, 2007 @ 6:44pm] |
Week 032: 'Rumour Has It' Sunday, April 30th - Saturday, May 6th, 2006
It wouldn't be Hogwarts without a little mystery, no student was willing to argue this fact. Whether they found the castle boring, exciting, enchanting, or poorly-decorated, the air of intrigue seemed stagnant over the ancient institution of magical learning. The week of daydreaming, aging, and floating proved that nothing could remain commonplace for long. Despite a glorious week of peace, the wonder of Hogwarts life returned on the last day of April. Acting Headmistress McGongall announced that the library was off-limits until further notice, sending the more studious of the castle's population into a frenzy. Gossip-lovers sent theories flying, but the true reasoning behind the library shutdown was sadly left unrevealed.
The Ministry has been eerily quiet, the usual publicity stunts of Lucius Malfoy absent for the time being. Although he was reported on April 25th as visiting muggle officials in South America, the wizarding world couldn't help but be suspicious of his sudden world tour.
As if the library debacle wasn't enough, the mouths of bored witches and wizards reminded the Hogwarts staff of their difficulty in staying shut. Rumors have been passed about the relationship between professors and students, aurors and students, aurors and professors, an so on and so forth. Unfortunately, these were the least of the faculty's concerns. Believing a story about the Giant Squid's ties to the Dark Lord, several students refuse to visit the lake, some even to dare to wander out on the ground for fear of Voldemort's spies. Though this has caused many unnecessary worry and strife, Peeves finds the topic wonderful to sing about loudly in the corridors.
No noses have grown during the course of the week. The source of the various Hogwarts tales is a secret well-kept for now.
You can thread your characters in the week of April 23rd - April 29th, just be aware that no plot occurs at this time!

Week 031: 'Disturbance in the Force' Sunday, April 16th - Saturday, April 22nd, 2006
The students of Hogwarts were relieved to find that things were not so perfect around the castle after the house-elf rebellion came to an anti-climatic conclusion. Though some missed being pampered on a daily basis, others were thankful to have a week of peace - a chance to study and relax without any unusual distractions. Unfortunately, no witch or wizard can escape the the undeniable truth that all good things must come to an end. While Hogwarts had seen its fair share of odd occurrences and tragedies, one important castle figure had been eerily quiet.
Peeves the poltergeist had plans for the students, and the professors too, and those plans were ready to be put in place. It was no secret to those who'd been at Hogwarts for a number of years that Filch had hidden some of the most dangerous and interesting magical objects known to the wizarding world in his many locked cabinents and drawers. It was also obvious that said items would not be easily recognized, most left by pranksters or brought to the castle by daft, irresponsible professors (not hard to believe that Gilderoy Lockhart had several misplaced possessions end up with the others). It would only take one to cause a significant amount of change in the daily routine of several. How much chaos could planting every object cause? Peeves was eager to find out.
Sunday evening, Peeves convinced a first year Slytherin that his lost family heirloom was being kept in Filch's old quarters, aiding the student in unlocking the 'appropriate' cabinent. Too easy, really, as in a matter of seconds the objects were being sent to the strangest of locations, ready to be stumbled upon by anyone. Amongst these wizarding items were the following:
- A new and improved daydream charm from Wealey's Wizarding Wheezes. This object takes the appearance of a book, garauntees one daydream to come true and is located in the library . - An enchanted clock banned by the Ministry. This clock ages a person by 10 years for 24 hours and is located in the trophy room. - A vial of billywig venom. This venom causes extreme giddiness and levitation, is disguised as soap, and is located in the prefect's bathroom.

Week 030: 'Friends in Low Places' Sunday, April 2nd - Saturday, April 8th, 2006
With the events of last week's case of scrofungulus finally passing, and the teachers resuming classes on Tuesday, the Prefects, Head Boy, and Head Girl rounds were lessened. The love potion and its effects seemed to have subsided as well, leaving only an extremely small portion of the Hogwarts' student population still effected. As things in the wizarding community seemed to return to somewhat normal, the elf community was buzzing about with talk of a rebellion.
After talk of said rebellion reached new Headmistress McGonagall, she promptly saw fit to make all kinds of pacts and deals with the house elves of Hogwarts to ensure there wouldn't be picket signs on Hogwarts' doorstep and elves marching in circles. As a result of her actions, many of the elves saw fit that they inform other house elves of such news leading to Hogwarts becoming the refuge location of elves throughout the UK.
Since Hogwarts has become the new home for over hundreds of house elves, it's taken a turn for the better. Every room is spotless, there's always an abundance of food, and the students more than likely see atleast one house elf daily. It seems as though the house elves have made Hogwarts their home until their masters can find it in themselves to give them wages for their work and treat them with respect. If they don't succumb to their wishes, the elves are more than willing to go to the Ministry for laws to be passed though.
Until then, the students of Hogwarts have some company.

Week 029: 'Attack of the Wheezes' Sunday, March 26th - Saturday, April 1st, 2006
McGonagall knew being named temporary Headmistress was going to be difficult, but things around Hogwarts were becoming a bit ridiculous. After being praised for her leadership abilities and 'student first' attitude, McGonagall was forced to cancel classes for an entire week. A FULL WEEK OF EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES LOST! Unfortunately, McGonagall was faced with no alternatives, as a case of the wizarding disease scrofungulus simultaneously hit every professor in the school - incredibly suspicious, but highly contagious.
Madam Pomfrey regretfully informed the Headmistress that scrofungulus treatment was in high demand, an epidemic having swept the whole of wizarding London. While some shout in the streets about biological warfare, others sip on tea and patiently wait for the illness to pass. It is the season, after all! The Professors were out of commission until Pomfrey could be restocked in a week's time.
Having no one else to turn to, McGonagall has urged the Head Boy, Head Girl, and Prefects to keep order during the 'period of staff impairment', starting to wheeze herself. Finally placed in the Hospital Wing with the others, McGonagall leaves the student officials to be faced with a more difficult task than they could have imagined, being swept up in an epidemic of their own.
A large shipment of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes products was delivered to the school in secret, paid for by an obviously wealthy prankster student. Love is in the air... love is everywhere, and quite literally. Disguised as ordinary products, such as hairsprays, candies, and even scented inks, items from the Weasley's assortment of subdued love potions have been scattered about Hogwarts - and no student is safe. Though none of these products can change the victim's emotions completely, pre-existing feelings of affection are heightened or twisted, causing complete chaos within the school.
As students snog in closets and professors cough in bed, Hogwarts lets 'Spring Fever' take on a whole new meaning.

Week 028: 'Keep Your Friends Close' Sunday, March 19th - Saturday, March 25th, 2006
Where in bloody hell is Dumbledore? The students whisper about the Headmaster's location at every meal, concerned by his empty seat at the staff table. Minerva McGonagall knows something about something, and she's not telling. Though she didn't expect that her first week as active Headmistress would go smoothly, she was frustrated enough having to push her first animagus training meeting to Monday. Ministry officials now look to hand her the position for good, and despite Lucius Malfoy's positive thoughts on her character, McGonagall's not comfortable without Albus Dumbledore running the Hogwarts show.
As if Hogwarts has not been invaded enough in past weeks, another visitor makes an appearance. Far too many mistakes have been made, too many warnings tossed aside, too many signs of an unprepared student population. Life in the wizarding world is no longer easy, though some would claim it never has been, and after the Hogsmeade attacks? There was no more room for taking chances.
Lucius Malfoy, once again popular with some of the public, believes McGonagall will be far easier to sneak past than the Headmaster on probation. With his kind words regarding the woman, he's decided to play by the rules of a common philosophy - keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Little does he know that there are some on Dumbledore's side following the same motto. And the students? They were keeping their friends closer than ever before.

[February 24, 2007 @ 8:38pm] |
Week 027: 'Join the Club' Sunday, March 12th - Saturday, March 18th, 2006
The attacks upon the village of Hogsmeade on Saturday afternoon have cast a shadow over wizarding Britain. While some mourn for the deaths of students caught in the crossfire, others wait anxiously for word from those students recovering from injuries at St. Mungo's. Lucius Malfoy planned to gain positive publicity through visiting said injured students, but complications with a much larger plan ruined his opportunity to make an appearance.
The Minister of Magic had expected the weekend's tragedy to give him the power to remove Albus Dumbledore from his position as Hogwarts Headmaster. When word leaked that Lucius had been lying to the muggle Prime Minister about events in the wizarding world, however, his so-called power was lessened considerably. Facing questioning about his motives concerning muggle relations, and losing some of the trust he'd carefully managed to 'earn', Lucius Malfoy was only able to have Albus suspended, control of Hogwarts passing to Minerva McGonagall for the time being. When the muggle Prime Minister issued a statement to the Daily Prophet regarding his 'bafflement over the state of the wizarding war', readers couldn't help but mumble "join the club."
For the students, concern about the attacks on Saturday and the influence of the war caused societal issues to grow within the castle walls. Members of the DA and FUKD immediately went to work, each recruiting more for their side of the fight. While one side urges students to prepare to defend themselves against harm, the other encourages an offensive approach - wands raised and noses held high. McGonagall, knowing nothing of the existence of either group, has prepared her own 'club' to ready students for life after Hogwarts. Those sixth and seventh years involved in NEWT level Transfiguration are encouraged to meet with her on Friday night to discuss animagus training.
Students are relieved to find their classmates rejoin them from St. Mungo's on Wednesday afternoon, and just in time for the second Quidditch Match of the season! The Slytherins are set to face the Ravenclaws on Saturday morning.

Week 026: 'Traitors in the Mist' Sunday, March 5th - Saturday, March 11th, 2006
The return of Dumbledore on Monday morning comforts the Hogwarts students and staff, but the week long closing of Gringotts for updates in security (after several break-in attempts) sends the wizarding world into a frenzy. Though stations have been set up across London for emergency withdrawals, popular belief is that the Dark Lord's followers have seized control of the bank.
The upcoming Hogsmeade Weekend seems pointless to those who have no money on hand. Several students, however, view the excursion as a long overdue break from studies. Only a few know of the danger that looms ahead.
A surprise visitor early in the week brings a warning for Merlin Flanagan and the members of Dumbledore's Army. Suspicious activity at the Hog's Head is ignored by Order members, yet encourages Merlin to pair DA members together to keep watch at popular Hogsmeade establishments.
Dorian Grace meets with a member of FUKD urging that only seventh years be in the village on Saturday afternoon. The message is never delivered.
A series of Death Eater attacks put the members of DA and FUKD to the test. With several injured and four students sent to St. Mungo's, will Dumbledore be able to keep his position as headmaster?
Lucius Malfoy is confident he will not.
Extended Plot - Important!

Lucius Malfoy did not like what he saw when he visited Hogwarts this past week. In fact, he pulled so many strings that on Sunday morning, Albus Dumbledore was not seen in his usual seat in the Great Hall.
He wasn't even within the castle.
Instead, a familiar face to the staff sits in his stead -- Dolores Umbridge. While most of the students have only heard horror stories, they've never experienced her reign first hand. It should be an interesting replacement, and one that hopefully will not last as long as the last time.

He's up to something.
He has planned an impromptu visit to the castle on Friday, February 24th, to 'check up' on how everything is going. The castle has been in a bustle for the entire week in expectation of the man arriving. Those who support him look forward to his visit, while those who are wary dread what might happen. [December 30, 2006 @ 11:08am] |
Week 023: 'Picking Up the Pieces' Sunday, February 12th - Saturday, February 18th, 2006
The damage that was done to the Astronomy Tower during the storm has proven to be a difficult task of rebuilding. The spidering cracks surrounding the tower have spread, and at around four a.m. on Sunday morning, the entire house of Ravenclaw could feel bits of the heavy stone crumbling near their common room.
Acting quickly, Dumbledore has evacuated the Ravenclaws until the rebuilding is complete -- it's not only a long and difficult process due to the extensive damage, but because of the strong magic involved in foundations and construction of the castle.
The Ravenclaws have been set up in the seventh floor's west wing, in a cluster of about twenty rooms that have been suited as slightly crowded dormitories. All previous charms were added (so no, boys still cannot enter a girls' dorm!), and they've been given strict orders to not wander the halls past curfew, as they have no common room nor traditional commons guard. They're expected to be back in their old common room by the end of the week!

Week 022: 'Natural Disaster' Sunday, February 5th - Saturday, February 11th, 2006
Even wizards are susceptable to 'natural disasters.' A devastating ice storm has hit England, Ireland, and Scotland, covering the United Kingdom in ice, snow, and general panic. On first glance, it looks like the ice storm was simply a natural occurance, horrible though it was.
However, the damage was quite concentrated, making some people suspicious.
After all, the worst damage was taken at the Ministry of Magic, and Hogwarts. More specifically, an entire wing of the Ministry was knocked out, leaving a mess that even the Muggles noticed. Hogwarts, meanwhile, was hit the hardest. The Astronomy Tower is in ruins, and Hogsmeade will need to be rebuilt, as many of the shops lost their roofs.
Was it a covert attack on the Wizarding World from the Dark Lord? Many wizards assume so, and everyone in the Wizarding World is talking about it.

Now that the duels have occurred, the suspicions are dying down among students. However, members of the FUKD are still wary of the rest of the student body, and the plan to infiltrate the DA has become their most crucial mission.
Rumours that the Minister of Magic is coming to the school soon have been escalating. With the 'inside man' that he has in Hogwarts, he feels a bit more secure in his standing amoungst the students -- as well as needing the public approval for his actions.
This week is quiet, but spines should be crawling. The quiet won't last.

Week 020: 'When Worlds Collide' Sunday, January 22nd - Saturday, January 28th, 2006
The rumours and whispers of last week have built up to a collision that will not soon be forgotten.
An inside-source for the FUKD uncovered the list of members from the famed 'Dumbledore's Army', and a dark plan was set into motion. A showdown, a test of skills, set up in the form of a Duel. Conveniently, students were matched up against rivals -- DA member against FUKD member. Those for Voldemort are curious as to how their proteges are coming along, and this was the perfect opportunity to pit the two sides against one another.
A list for match-ups can be found HERE. Also, please note that the outcomes are not meant to be win/lose -- merely duel, shoot appropriate spells and hexes. There is no score nor result; it's merely to see how well the students are doing.
The duel will take place on Thursday, January 26th, at ten a.m. in the Great Hall. Any members who fail to show up and duel will be served with a detention, including those whose players are on hiatus; the detention may just be assumed to take place if they are unable to play it.
